About James
My single focus is to work hard on your behalf and deliver outcomes.
Since being elected as the Member for Manly in 2017, I have worked hard to be a strong representative of the electorate. I have spoken in Parliament, on behalf of local constituents, hundreds of times.
These include Questions Without Notice, Community Recognition Statements, and Private Members Statements.
Additionally, I have made many representations on behalf of local constituents to Government Ministers regarding matters within their respective portfolios.

About Me
Every day is a great privilege to serve
I have been the Member for Manly since 2017, the 8th person to hold the position since the creation of the electorate in 1927, and every day in the role is a great privilege. I am committed to ensuring that our community is the best place to live, work, and raise a family in all of Australia and I work hard to deliver on that commitment.
Our area is a vibrant community that has so much to be proud of. Alongside many people in the community, I have helped deliver significant improvements to area, including the construction of Australia’s first Hospice for young adults. A project that has been my greatest achievement so far.
It is a great honour to serve not only the electorate of Manly, but the state of New South Wales, previously as a Minister in the former Coalition Government, and today as the Shadow Minister for Energy, Climate Change, Environment and Digital Government.
I was appointed to Cabinet by former Premier Perrottet were I served as the Environment and Heritage Minister. I have enjoyed a variety of roles in the Parliament ranging from Parliamentary Secretary for Veterans to a the Chair of various Committees. Prior to being elected to NSW Parliament, I was a Director at KPMG Australia.
I have been active in our community for more than 30 years, whether in my role as the Junior Club Captain of Manly Life Saving Club, or playing bad Rugby for the Seaforth Raiders.
As someone who is deeply passionate about my local community, I am proud to be the Patron of several Manly-based community organisations. These include the Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter, North Steyne and Queenscliff Surf Life Saving Clubs, Friends of Ivanhoe Park Botanic Gardens, Manly Lawn Tennis Club, the Australia Remembers Committee and LocalKind, formerly Community Northern Beaches. I am fortunate to live in Manly together with my wife, Elissa and my two young children, Teddy and Grace.

About Manly
From its high sandstone cliffs overlooking the sparkling Sydney Harbour to its iconic beaches and surf breaks, marine reserves and historic National Parkland, Manly is a place which more perfectly than anywhere else captures Sydney’s relationship with the ocean and the outdoors. This stunning natural beauty and the area’s proximity to the CBD makes Manly an attractive place to live and work.
The Electorate today is home to almost 62,000 voters, occupying an area of 33 square kilometres. Encompassing Manly are the suburbs of Balgowlah, Balgowlah Heights, Brookvale, Clontarf, Curl Curl, North Curl Curl, Dee Why, Fairlight, Freshwater, Manly, Manly Vale, North Balgowlah, North Manly, Queenscliff, and Seaforth.
The Electorate sits within the Federal Seat of Warringah and the Northern Beaches Local Government Area.
Since its inception in 1927, the Manly Electorate has been represented by eight MPs, including the current Liberal Member, James Griffin MP, who was elected to the seat in a by-election in 2017.
Our Environment
It’s your backyard...
I am passionate about our environment. As the former Minister for Environment and Heritage, and now Shadow Minister for Energy, Climate Change and the Environment, preserving Manly’s local environment remains a key priority of mine. Our lagoons, parks and stunning coastal environment are not just part of what makes Manly special—they’re vital to the health of our community and to ensuring our native species continue to thrive.
This requires careful management and decisive action – restoring native vegetation and ecosystems, safeguarding habitats for threatened species, and reducing waste and pollution in our waterways. During my time as NSW Minister for Environment and Heritage, I was proud to deliver a number of unprecedented environmental reforms including the total banning of problematic single use plastics across NSW and the largest ever acquisition of land for the NSW National Parks Estate.
My pledge to you is an unwavering focus on making an environmental difference. I will continue to work closely with local environmental organisations and the community to ensure Manly’s legacy is a vibrant, sustainable home for generations to come.

I have a proud record conserving our State's Environment
- Largest Ever Acquisition of Land for the NSW National Parks Estate.
- Problematic Single Use Plastics Banned in NSW.
- Manly Warringah Memorial Park Heritage Listed.
- Manly’s Ivanhoe Park Heritage Listed.
- Multi day walk established across NSW National Parks.
