The Department of Education has confirmed that the NBSC Freshwater Campus will transition from a Year 11-12 senior campus to a Year 7-12 campus by 2027. Local intake areas for NSBC campuses and The Forest High School will also be adjusted, with revised boundaries set to be announced at the end of Term 4, 2024.
As part of these changes, upgraded facilities will be delivered to the NBSC Freshwater Campus to accommodate the increase in student population. At the same time, conditional assessments will commence at all other NBSC campuses. Importantly, the Deputy Premier has committed that upgrades will also be undertaken at the Balgowlah Boys Campus to meet the school’s needs.
When the previous Coalition Government committed to upgrading Balgowlah Boys, I made a promise to the students, parents, and staff that I would do everything I could to ensure the Minns Labor Government stayed true to providing this crucial funding.
By working closely with the school principal and the P&C executive, I’ve consistently fought for these much-needed upgrades to Balgowlah Boys’ facilities as a matter of urgency.
The Government’s plans to expand school intake across the Northern Beaches simply weren’t realistic without significant investment in existing school infrastructure. I made it clear that if the Government found funding for these upgrades, Balgowlah Boys must be included in that allocation.
That’s why I’m so pleased to announce that, after almost two years of persistent advocacy, the Government has finally listened and made a public commitment to delivering these vital upgrades.
Balgowlah Boys has consistently excelled as one of the State’s top-performing schools despite outdated facilities and substandard conditions. These upgrades will ensure students and staff can thrive in a learning environment that reflects the school’s stellar academic success. It will also secure the school’s ability to meet the needs of our local families well into the future.
I want to extend my immense gratitude to the P&C and the school leadership team for their tireless advocacy. I also want to acknowledge the Deputy Premier for listening to our calls and committing to this outcome.
I’ll continue to work closely with the school and the P&C executive to hold the Minns Labor Government accountable and ensure they follow through on this promise. The students, teachers, and staff at Balgowlah Boys don’t just desperately need these upgrades—they absolutely deserve them.
